چکیده

Oligonucleotide probes specific for simple tandem repeat sequences produce individual specific DNA fingerprints in man and all animal species so far. In the present investigation (r)-p labeled oligonucleotide probes (GTG)5, (GT)8 and (GGAT)4 were used as multilocus probes to detect hypervariable microsatellites in the Indian dromedary camel population. Oligo probes were radiolabelled and hybridized to camel genomic DNA from 3 breeds viz. Bikaneri, Jaisalmeri and Kachchhi which had been digested with the restriction endonucleases Hinf I and Hae III. Two of these probes revealed DNA fingerprint patterns which were analyzed for 3 breeds to characterize intra or inter-breed variations. The oligonucletide (GGTA)4 gave individual specific DNA fingerprint patterns with 3 to 4 polymorphic bands, while (GTG)5 generated less discernible individual variation. The number of DNA bands varied from 6 to 12 in number with molecular weight ranging from 1.0 kb to 14 kb. The probe (GT)8 generated as low as 6 bands with little variability among individuals. The application of DNA fingerprinting technique may prove to be valuable in the precise identification of individuals and study of genetic variation in camel breeds.

Genetic variability of camel (Camelus dromedarius) populations in Saudi Arabia based on microsatellites analysis

The genetic diversity and population genetic structure of dromedary camels (Camelus dromedarius) are poorly documented in Saudi Arabia. The present study was conducted to address some of these genetics using four Saudi Arabian camel populations namely; Magaheem (MG), Maghateer (MJ), Sofr (SO) and Shual (SH). Genomic DNA was extracted from the hair roots of 160 camels, 40 individuals from each p...

Genetic characterization of Escherichia coli O157:H7 strains isolated from the one-humped camel (Camelus dromedarius) by using microarray DNA technology.

From the Camelidae family members, several serotypes of Escherichia coli (E. coli) have recently been isolated from diarrhoeic and non-diarrhoeic faecal samples. To date Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC) strains have never been typed in one-humped camel (Camelus dromedarius). In the present study, two E. coli O157:H7 strains isolated from sick dromedaries were investigated. Virulence gene pr...

Isolation and molecular characterization of partial FSH and LH receptor genes in Arabian camels (Camelus dromedarius)

Very little is known about LHR and FSHR genes of domestic dromedary camels. The main objective of this study was to determine and analyze partial genomic regions of FSHR and LHR genes in dromedary camels for the first time. To this end, a total of50 DNA samples belonging to dromedary camels raised in Iran were sent for sequencing (25 samples of each gene). We compared the nucleotide sequences o...

Gastrointestinal parasites infection in one-humped camels (Camelus dromedarius) of Nigeria

One hundred and five (105) Camels were investigated at the Maiduguri abattoir, Nigeria using floatation and sedimentation techniques for helminth parasites and haematological indices with the microhaematocrit reader. Overall, prevalence of infection was 92.4% [(Coccidia (8.5%), Strongyloides (8.5%), Trichuris (11.4%), Ciliates (6.7%), Ascaris sp. (3.8%), Moniezia sp. (1.9%), Amphistome sp. (0.9...
